Utility:
The Granite is one of the most valuable construction rocks. Due to its composition of hard materials like feldspar, quartz, micanite, which merge into a very hard rock, the granite is ideal for kitchen countertops, because their polish is resistant to domestic acids such as vinegar, citrus juice and is hard enough to withstand scratches. Also, the contact with kitchen utensils or hot liquids will not affect the granite.
In addition, the granite allows underfloor heating, demanding low costs.
Through its uniformity, hardness, different dimensions, varied colors and elegance, it is highly recommended for use on large surfaces, both indoors and outdoors.
It can also be used for monument pedestals, as cubic stone for paving streets, alleys and sidewalks, etc.
From the physical properties point of view, the granites are hard stones, compact, with fine and / or thick granulations of metamorphic or volcanic origin, with the following characteristics:
• Durity : 6 - 7 on Mohs scale
• Density : 2.6 - 2.8 Kg/cm³
• Compresion Resistance : 140 - 210 N/mm²
• Rupture Mode :15 - 25 N/mm²
• Water Absorption : 0.1-0.6%
• Pretty low porosity
• Weather resistent
From the chemical composition point of view, the granites are magmatic rocks composed of quartz, feldspar and minerals such as ferromagnesian kriolite, chlorite, garnet, etc. A typical granite will have the following chemical composition:
• Quartz (SiO2) : 70-75%
• Aluminum oxide (Al2O3) : 10-15%
• Calcium oxide (CaO) : 0,5%
• Peridotite (MgO) : 0,5%
• Bauxite (FeO) : 2-4%
• Bauxite (Fe2O3) : 2-4%
• Alcaline : 4-6%
• Peridotite (TiO2) : less than 0,5%
• Loss at calcination (LOI) : less than 0,5%
